Re: 50-ton bowhead whale caught with 1800's weapon found in its neck
I watched a prog on this, these are very poor villages, they dont have supermarkets and apparently they harvest these whales to feed a small village for 6 months they eat every part of the whale, they have hunted whales for hundreds of yrs so its also part of their culture also, this is just normal to them.

Exactly, perhaps not eat every part, but certainly not waste anything.Skin for leather, bones for tools etc. These are people killing not out of greed, simply need. It's westerners hunting for so called sport that fucking hacks me off. |

Re: 50-ton bowhead whale caught with 1800's weapon found in its neck
Okay first of all, they don't just randomly kill whales. When whales are hunted they're not just killed for a small portion of the animal. They use almost every part of the way for food, fuel, etc.,etc. Whaling is a very controlled industry and only so many whales can be caught and consumed every year as a whole. That being said, I think it sucks such an old animal was killed but it's not like they can tell how old an animal is just by looking at it and not as if they can just ask.
