400-Cigarette Smoking Machine: Tar and Ash Residue
A homemade smoking-machine demonstration used a PC fan or power-supply vacuum to draw smoke from 400 cigarettes through a water bottle. The water progressively turned black before it was boiled in a pan, leaving a dark residue that was scraped up with a knife and spoon. The maker said the strong suction caused some cigarette filters to burn and be pulled into the apparatus, meaning the final residue contained both tar and ash. The frequently repeated figure of 7.2 grams of tar was calculated by multiplying 400 cigarettes by 18 milligrams rather than by weighing the residue produced in the demonstration. |

Greatly accelerated for dramatic effect. I won't deny cigarettes are bad for you, but the average smoker(among my friends/family who smoke, not a big sampling I'll concede) goes through a 1/2 pack to a pay a day. Assuming a full pack on any given day, that's a years worth of tar in 4 hours. |

if you smoke a pack a day 400 cigs are less than a months worth. I smoke but I dont smoke at all 2 days a week to give my lungs a time to clean themselves up and I limit myself to 10 cigs max any certain day. I also smoke weed though. No limit on that unless I cant get any.
