165-meter High Cooling Tower in Hartsville Demolished by Explosion
In Hartsville, Tennessee, a 165-meter cooling tower at an abandoned nuclear power plant was demolished last week. Construction began in 1977, but the project was canceled in 1984, partly due to rising costs - instead of the announced 2 billion, about 13 billion dollars were spent. The demolished cooling tower was one of the few structures that were completed. Its destruction required just over 400 kilograms of explosives. |

They spent $13 Billion, and only got a COOLING TOWER?!?!?! WTF happened to the REST of the money?! A cooling tower is only like $23 Million dollars! |

Where does all the cement go to? That shit won’t melt in the rain. Great the demolished the structure but all that cement and rebar are still there just in a pile now.  |

I think they probably will recycle the concrete. They grind it down and use it to make new concrete.

Thanks for that. I looked it up. Germany is actually using it to great benefit. I was not aware that concrete could actually be reused.  |

They use the concrete pieces to place on areas near the roadways that are unstable on steep slopes. Called rip rap rock
