Wineville Chicken Coop Abductions & Murders
The Wineville Chicken Coop Murders were a series of abductions and murders of young boys that took place in and around Wineville, California (now part of Mira Loma), between 1926 and 1928. The gruesome crimes were perpetrated by Gordon Stewart Northcott, a Canadian immigrant, and his mother, Sarah Louise Northcott, causing widespread horror and leading to significant changes in California's criminal justice system. Northcott abducted, molested, and murdered several young boys, and his mother assisted in at least one of the killings. The discovery of the murders began with the investigation into the disappearance of a young Mexican boy, Alvin Gothea. Later, the disappearance of the brothers Lewis and Nelson Winslow in 1928 led to further investigations, revealing the extent of the atrocities committed at the Northcott family's chicken ranch in Wineville. The case came to light when Sanford Clark, Northcott's nephew, who had been forced to assist in the crimes, was found by authorities and revealed the gruesome details. Investigators uncovered evidence of the murders, including human remains, at the chicken ranch. Gordon Stewart Northcott was arrested, tried, and found guilty of the murders. He was sentenced to death and executed in San Quentin State Prison in 1930. Sarah Louise Northcott was also convicted and sentenced to life in prison but was paroled after serving less than 12 years. The Wineville Chicken Coop Murders were so notorious that the town of Wineville changed its name to Mira Loma in an effort to disassociate from the stigma of the crimes. |

Re: Wineville Chicken Coop Abductions & Murders
I've read & re-read about this over the years. It's so sad, especially for Sanford Clark. That poor boy...it's amazing he managed to stay alive.
