I just heard it will be tried as Domestic Terrorism with possible Hate Crime insinuations. Maybe spend 300 instead of 200 years in jail.

Re: Video From Patrick Crusius & The El Paso Walmart Shooting

I ccw everyday. Not once has my glock jumped out of the holster and started shooting people on its own...
Nor will it but you see videos and hear news reports of accidents happen all the time. I'm all for having guns but ccw is stupid. The average person should not be carrying. I also have my permit, I will never because I'm not paranoid and I understand I have bigger issues to worry about.

You are basically saying that the average person should not have the ability to protect themselves. Case and point - El Paso walmart. They had your mentality - and they died without resistance.

Re: Video From Patrick Crusius & The El Paso Walmart Shooting

It's strange. Although Texas is a gun friendly state, only about 5% of the population has a CCW license, and even fewer actually carry every day.

Wherever I leave home, I carry four things with me: wallet, keys, phone, and my G19.
This^

G19 on my hip as I type

Re: Video From Patrick Crusius & The El Paso Walmart Shooting

You'll call me ignorant, I'm a Brit, so I'm far removed from day-to-day life in the US. But it's hard to see how guns aren't the problem here.

I know many are citing mental health as the issue and that may be so, but with guns being far less accessible, the problem decreases for sure.

Compare it to the combustion triangle. A fire needs 3 elements to succeed. Oxygen, Heat and Fuel. Remove one element, there is no fire.

A mass killing needs 3 elements to succeed. A perp, a weapon and a motive. We could defuse the motive, whether it be mental health, a grudge, or whatever. Or we could also remove the weapon. That's not to say the motive doesn't need addressing, but making guns harder to access takes away the most volatile part of the triangle.

There's a bigger picture here, which by the way I do understand, and that's the huge chicken/egg situation created by a country populated by people that feel they need to carry a gun to protect them from the other people with guns. That's another matter and shouldn't remove common sense from the equation.

A killer is only a killer when he has the means to kill. It's super easy to kill someone with a gun, you can do it from hundreds of feet away, with no moral connection to your victim and no time for compassion to kick in. You can do it from a hidden position, picking victims off from a hotel window, even from a hole drilled in the trunk of a car.

If the killer couldn't obtain a gun and settled for a knife, he/she would have to be far closer and a whole lot more efficient to achieve the same kill rate and not everyone can make a bomb that easily.

I can only remember 3 non-IS mass-shootings in the UK in my lifetime. Cumbria in 2010, Dunblane in 1996 and Hungerford in 1987. A very tiny percentage of the population carries a weapon of ANY sort and those that do are probably gang-members who are only really interested in killing rival gangs.

Please help me to understand what I've missed here?

Those 'accidents' are typically people who are negligent with their firearms. They'll do things like remove the magazine from their weapon so they can clean the gun, but forget to check if there is a round in the chamber. Or they'll leave a loaded handgun on top of the fridge, or in a drawer, where a child can access it and mess around with it. Both of these scenarios are considered accidents, but both are strictly due to owner negligence.

A gun is not going to just fire on its own, unless someone is negligent with it, performs shitty homemade modifications/gunsmithing on it, or doesn't know how to handle a hangfire situation, for example. I can place any of my firearms on a table, fully loaded, and they'll never 'just go off' unless someone pulls the trigger.

Sure, I don't disagree and you're trying to go from one extreme to the next. First, laying a fully loaded gun on the table is stupid, a gun should always be under the control of the owner.

Second, ignoring that there are negligent people out there is ignorant and supports my previous statement of not ever Joe Blow should be able to carry, visible or not.

you think people just sat there and did nothing? Here, let me put a lawn chair out from isle 6 and let somebody come and shoot. Do you think the average person with a ccw and small dick syndrome can draw on somebody with an ak/ar? You're way out ranged and out gunned.

Re: Video From Patrick Crusius & The El Paso Walmart Shooting

Since you brought it up. What "regulations" are we talking about?

Most people, unless they actually listen to Republicans and not just what the Democrats say about them. Know that Republicans are for regulations on firearms. As long as those regulations don't prevent a law abiding, good standing citizen from purchasing a firearm.

Republicans don't want criminals or unstable people buying guns. I would venture to say that all gin laws currently in force passed with Republican support.

And new gun laws could be passed today if both sides were on the same page.

Republicans are to blame, I'm not denying that. But so are Democrats. You have Democrats standing on the Senate floor, saying "we don't want to take guns away from everyone".

Then stand on a stage at some rally saying "there's no reason for any person to have a rifle".

So, which is it Democrats?

How can the Republicans give an inch, when their opposition makes it known their intentions are to take a mile?

From where I stand, that's the main reason nothing happens on guns.
I may have to bring this up again but let me try to start at the beginning.

Which regulations? Uhm any? A lot of Democrats are pushing for better control, better background testing. Before somebody jumps on this gun show loophole, I don't think it exists so let's just get that in the open.

I'm all for allowing those that want weapons and can respectfully use them then go for it. But a lot of people don't understand being a victim of gun violence in a situation where you had time to defend yourself is less likely than you dying from other means. Look at that picture of a woman next to her truck, I would put money on if she had a weapon on her she wouldn't have had time to draw.

But let's say somebody did draw and missed and hit somebody behind the shooter (what should the consequences be?) or missed completely and died as a result...

With most your Democrat vs Republican arguments I personally think they're all fucking idiots. They are just in it for the money, at least 99% of them.
