On the evening of October 12th, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu community faced a devastating loss when 25-year-old Thaynã Higor, a renowned para-athlete in the sport, was fatally shot in Praia Grande, Brazil. This tragedy occurred only two months following the passing of fellow athlete Leandro Lo. Higor, a celebrated three-time world champion, was tragically struck by a bullet in the head while waiting outside a local eatery.

Surveillance footage from the restaurant revealed that Higor was on the sidewalk awaiting transportation when an individual approached and shot him at close range, leading to his immediate death. The shooter then proceeded into the restaurant, discharging another round which struck a 67-year-old patron. This second victim was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following morning.

According to G1's report, the perpetrator was pursued by onlookers and fled to a nearby pizza shop where he took three individuals hostage. Fortunately, law enforcement intervened promptly and apprehended the assailant without further harm to the public.
