US Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, Death Pictures
On September 11, 2012, United States Ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, was killed in an attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. Ambassador Stevens' death marked the first time a U.S. ambassador was killed in the line of duty since 1979. The attack also claimed the lives of three other Americans: Sean Smith, a Foreign Service Information Management Officer, and two CIA contractors, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty. The attack began late in the evening when armed militants stormed the U.S. compound, setting fires and engaging in armed combat with security personnel. Ambassador Stevens and Sean Smith died due to smoke inhalation when they became trapped in a building engulfed in flames. Woods and Doherty were killed later at a nearby CIA annex during a separate but related assault by militants. The incident quickly became a subject of intense political debate in the United States, with questions raised about the adequacy of security at the compound and the nature of the U.S. military response. Initial reports suggested that the attack had grown out of a spontaneous protest against an anti-Islamic video. However, subsequent investigations revealed that it was a premeditated act of terrorism. Multiple congressional investigations and an independent review by the State Department's Accountability Review Board (ARB) ensued. The ARB report criticized the State Department for systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies at senior levels, leading to inadequate security at the Benghazi compound. I wouldn't want to have anything to do with the guys who did this - someone is going to pay them a rather pointed visit and conversation is not going to be the goal. They'll speak the language of the 5.56 mm rifle bullet. I just hope we get to see pix of their dead corpses!

From SDI: "Also: Alot more pics will pop up. Probably even vids. Allah supplied all "allahu ackbars" with cellphones...." The guy carrying him has a cell phone in his mouth. (I think.) The Today show said he "died from smoke inhalation." |
