On the evening of January 6, 2007, Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom were carjacked in Knoxville, Tennessee. The couple was taken to a rental house on Chipman Street, where they endured horrific ordeals. Christian was held captive, brutally beaten, and sexually assaulted. The medical examiner's testimony revealed that Christian was subject to extreme sexual torture, leading to severe injuries. She was also beaten on the head and kicked in the groin, causing extensive hemorrhaging. The attackers attempted to remove DNA evidence by pouring bleach down Christian's throat and on her body. She was eventually placed in a trash can, hog-tied, and suffocated to death​​.

Newsom's body was discovered near railroad tracks on January 7, hours after his death. He had been bound, shot three times, and set on fire, and had his penis cut off. The medical examiners concluded that he was killed before Christian​​​​.

Channon Christian, was beaten and gang-raped in many ways for four days by all of them, while they took turns urinating on her. Then they cut off her breast and put chemicals in her mouth … and then murdered her. Channon's body was also found stuffed into a trash can.

The search for the couple began when they failed to show up at a party. Newsom's truck was found in the parking lot where the kidnapping occurred. Christian's SUV was later found abandoned near the railroad tracks where Newsom's body was discovered. Fingerprints in the SUV led investigators to Davidson’s residence, which was the site of the attacks​​.

Five individuals were arrested in connection with the crimes: Lemaricus Devall "Slim" Davidson, George Geovonni "Detroit" Thomas, Letalvis Darnell "Rome" Cobbins, Eric DeWayne "E" Boyd, and Vanessa Coleman. These arrests were the result of a combination of DNA evidence, witness testimony, and police investigation efforts​​​​.

The trials of the assailants were complex and drawn out. Davidson, identified as the ringleader, was sentenced to death for the double murder. Cobbins and Thomas received life sentences without parole, while Coleman, found guilty of lesser charges, received a 53-year sentence. Boyd, initially sentenced to 18 years for being an accessory and aiding a fugitive, later received a life sentence after a re-trial​​​​.
