David Halberstam of The New York Times was also present as a print reporter and wrote about it, but Browne was the sole journalist who captured the famous Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph, which has been posted in this thread earlier.

What we actually see being lit up in the video, is a prop doll, created by Carlo Rambaldi, who's also the guy that created the physical model of E.T. for the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982).

There's an established consensus that during the real Thích Quảng Đức self-immolation, he was eerily static for a whole 10 minutes after being lit on fire, maintaining his lotus pose throughout and only then his corpse fell back, when it could no longer physically remain upright.

What we see in this staged Mondo Cane 2 footage is the doll losing posture very early on, while the robes are still visibly intact, moving within the fire.

Furthermore, if we look at the close-up shots, we can see that the flames are burning within a hollow husk and as most of us know, a human body simply doesn't burn like that.

Seen it before. I don't actually call it 'self immolation' as someone else clearly poured the accelerant all over him and lit him on fire! May well have been at his request, but he sure had assistance!!!

I've seen a lot of self immolation videos and most were assisted. But if you look up the meaning, it doesn't really say you HAVE to do it yourself. It just means you're offering yourself.
