On April 16, 2017, an incident occurred in Cleveland, Ohio where Steve Stephens, the perpetrator, filmed himself shooting and killing 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr., and then uploaded the video to social media. Stephens, who was 37 at the time, recorded a video of himself announcing his intent to commit murder, followed by another video showing the actual shooting of Godwin. The videos were then uploaded to Facebook. Godwin, the victim, was reportedly chosen at random and was walking home from an Easter meal with his family when he was confronted and killed. The incident prompted a manhunt for Stephens, involving local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The story garnered extensive media coverage, with public warnings issued about Stephens' potential danger to the community. On April 18, two days after the murder, Stephens was located in Erie, Pennsylvania, after a brief pursuit by the Pennsylvania State Police. As law enforcement approached his vehicle to make an arrest, Stephens committed suicide.   |
