Soul Singer and Songwriter Sam Cooke Death Pictures
Sam Cooke, a singer and songwriter, died under tragic and controversial circumstances on December 11, 1964, in Los Angeles, California. He was 33 years old. Cooke's death occurred at the Hacienda Motel in Los Angeles. According to police reports, Cooke was shot and killed by Bertha Franklin, the motel manager. Franklin claimed that Cooke had attacked her, and that she shot him in self-defense. The circumstances leading to the altercation involved a dispute between Cooke and a young woman who had accompanied him to the motel earlier that evening. The official account of Cooke's death was met with skepticism by his family, friends, and fans. Many questioned the investigation's findings and suggested foul play, pointing to Cooke's prominence as a Black entertainer and his active support of the Civil Rights Movement. He was shot one time somewhere in the torso and yelled out to the shooter Bertha Franklin, "lady, you shot me" before collapsing in the door way and dying. |

I don't know, it's kind of hard to tell given the angles of both the crime scene pics and the casket pics. I could have sworn I have his autopsy report but I haven't been able to find it. I'm gonna keep looking and I'll post it if I find It. That would hopefully give a good idea as to the condition his body was in. |
