Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen

Junkies, man...

On October 12, 1978, 20-year-old Nancy Spungen was found dead from a single fatal stab wound to the abdomen in Room 100 of the Chelsea Hotel in New York City. Her boyfriend, Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious, was charged with her murder but died of a heroin overdose four months later, before the case could go to trial.

Room 100 was found in a highly chaotic state, scattered with personal items, clothing, and heavy drug paraphernalia. The weapon, a blood-stained hunting knife, was recovered from the floor.

Re: Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen

She was diagnosed with schizophrenia and experienced extreme, violent outbursts, leading her to be institutionalized and eventually rejected by her family.

Sid grew up with an addict mother who provided him with drugs at a young age. He was emotionally stunted, easily manipulated, and wholly unprepared for the intense pressures of fame meaning their relationship was a perfect storm for failure.

Nancy introduced Sid to intravenous heroin use. Their connection quickly became less about love and more about shared addiction and by the time they moved to the Chelsea hotel, they had pushed away anyone who cared about them and lived in a closed, claustrophobic loop of scoring, using and fighting/bickering.

The punk movement’s ethos of live fast, die young became a highly profitable marketing tool for managers etc. and both were the ultimate posters for it. We've seen this countless times in the past where managers or even family don't step in agraid of cutting down the cash flow

What's up with that weird syringe? It has that black thing where the plunger should be.

Looks like makeshift plunger handle made from the plastic casing of a standard ballpoint ink pen with tape on it. In prison they make them also.

In the 1970's, NY had strict laws regarding the purchase of medical syringes to combat the heroin epidemic. It was illegal to buy them without a valid medical prescription so they stole needles from hospitals, clinics or diabetic supplies and created homemade syringes, often using ballpoint pens. sometimes the plastic breaks and then they use tape.
