Maury Travis was a serial killer who operated in the St. Louis, Missouri, area in the early 2000s. His crimes, which gained widespread attention, were particularly gruesome and shocked the local community as well as law enforcement officials. Travis was linked to the deaths of at least 12 women, though the actual number of victims may have been higher. Travis's killing spree came to light in a chilling manner. In 2002, he sent a map to a St. Louis newspaper, which he claimed marked the location of one of his victim's bodies. The map, drawn on Expedia.com, led investigators to a body in a suburb of St. Louis. This map was subsequently traced back to Travis's computer, leading to his arrest. Upon searching Travis's home, authorities found a horrifying scene. They discovered a basement that he had converted into a torture chamber, complete with restraints and various instruments used to torture his victims. What was more disturbing was the discovery of videotapes that Travis had made, documenting the torture and killing of several women. These tapes provided undeniable evidence of his gruesome crimes. Maury Travis claimed to have been influenced by other serial killers, such as Ted Bundy. His methods involved luring women, often sex workers, to his home, where he would then proceed to torture and eventually kill them. His victims were predominantly African American women, which raised concerns and discussions about vulnerabilities faced by women in marginalized communities. Before he could stand trial, Maury Travis committed suicide in his jail cell in June 2002, leaving many questions unanswered. His death meant that many aspects of his crimes, including the full extent of his actions and the exact number of his victims, remained unknown. |

Was just reading about how Maury Travis’ mom continued to rent out his house after the murders and kept the furniture he used as part of the killings but didn’t tell the tenant. The tenant found out after one of her friends saw crime scene photos on tv and recognized the house. She then had to fight to break her lease but eventually got out of it. |

This was one of my most wishful information on a serial killer besides Israel Keyes (for the obvious reason of the suicides). It leaves out the BTK style of everything you needed to know you got. That is nuts about his mom and the furniture. I would always check back on Maury to see if more videos or crime scene photos were out. So these two pictures were I keep hoping they will release more just for the psychology of it. I'm watching a different documentary on him right now and the psychologists noted the women he killed had children so they feel that was a tipping point for him. I can't remember if we are allowed to link but I can message the doc if anyone wants to see it. Thanks again for the condo info another blank filled in. |
