Re: A REAL World Trade Center Jumper

that would be 40 feet almost straight into the wind though...perhaps it wasn't a jumper...

Re: A REAL World Trade Center Jumper

Why are you doubting a Jumper couldn't move 40 feet away from the towers if he pushed himself out of a hundred story building? I doubt the wind had a huge factor when it's a heavy body pushing themselves from that height. Those are legs hanging off the Marriot roof, there is no doubt. Some Jumpers managed to hurl themselves pretty far actually.

Re: A REAL World Trade Center Jumper

He could have made it that far even in strong winds, 1,000 feet up and you can get some forward travel. One made it to the little church's parkinglot across the street.

Re: A REAL World Trade Center Jumper

Most of you probably already read this, but some may not have.

University administrator Jack Gentul cannot possibly imagine his late wife’s torment before she died. Alayne Gentul, mother of two and the 44-year-old vice president of an investment company, was in the South Tower and had gone up to the 97th floor to help evacuate staff after the other tower was hit.

In her final moments, she rang Jack to say in labouring breaths that smoke was coming into her room through vents.
‘She said “I’m scared”,’ he tells me quietly. ‘She wasn’t a person who got scared, and I said, “Honey, it’ll be all right, it’ll be all right, you’ll get down”.’

Alayne Gentul’s remains were found in the street outside the building across from the tower — sufficiently far from the rubble to suggest she had jumped.

Mr Gentul, who has since remarried, is not convinced she took that option but is clearly irked that some believe jumping was some sort of cop-out.
‘She was a very practical person who would have done whatever she could to survive,’ he explains in a quiet voice. ‘But how can anyone know what one would do in a situation like that, having to choose how you go from this Earth?’
The notion that she jumped is, indeed, consoling to Mr Gentul in some ways, in that she exercised an element of control over her death.

Some managed to jump pretty far, the one that made it to the church parking lot took a running go and launched himself out the window and made it quite a ways away. I'm guessing 100 (?) feet ? They could not have made 330 feet though, at least I don't think they could. I have been wrong before though.

well it's a matter of force...at what point does forward momentum get trumped by gravity...pretty quick...40 feet into the wind at over a thousand feet would require much more than a push...i suspect that the lower half we are seeing was perhaps blown out by the plane...

are you certain the above was a jumper? you were there, so i'll take your word on it. Did any make any noise on the way down that wasn't drowned out by all of the sirens?

In some ways, New York came to a standstill that day.

The legs hanging off ? No, I am not certain it was, it just makes sense if you look closely at the picture. It's not just his legs there, his upper part is there too, it's just the next step up.

You can't see it that great in the picture where it's not zoomed in, but in the one that is, you can see where the rest of him is.
