Re: The Portuguese Rider Luis Carreira Motorcycle Death

Damn. In the YouTube video, it sounds like his bike is hitting the rev limiter all the way into the turn. Maybe the throttle was stuck?

Re: The Portuguese Rider Luis Carreira Motorcycle Death

Was it the burns, or was it internal trauma?
Almost certainly the traumatic injuries that killed him, he went pretty much head-on into the tyres and barrier at well over 100mph and was thrown from the bike onto the track at almost exactly the same instant that the fuel tank exploded so there was no time for him to have suffered burns of any severity. If you watch the video of his crash it looks very much like his throttle stuck open. Superbikes are extremely unforgiving when it starts to go wrong...

Personally, from the force of the impact I strongly suspect he died instantly from internal decapitation and he was dead before he hit the tarmac, but I'm not a medical expert so I could be wrong. Certainly he didn't know a thing about it...
