Popular World of Warcraft Player Dead at 31 from Suicide After Proposal

31 Year old Byron Bernstein, better known by his online nickname Reckful commited suicide on July 2nd 2020. He was an American Twitch streamer and former professional eSports player. It was among the first streamers on Twitch. Reckful was best known for his achievements in World of Warcraft. In June 2018, he started broadcasting a podcast named Byron with Tea Time, which includes long-term interviews with key guests in the gaming and streaming communities.

Reckful Battle With Depression

Reckful opened up about getting depressed when he returned to the Harvard psychiatrist and Twitch streamer Dr. Kanojia to talk about his depression in late 2019. He said at that time that he focused on people who experienced the same thing he had. He clearly talked about his depression on Twitter.

Reckful Family

He was born to a Jewish family for Reckful, Itamar and Judith Bernstein. He had two older brothers named Gary and Guy. His eldest brother, Guy, committed suicide when Reckful was young, and Bryon said this incident had a profound effect on his life and later on his struggle with depression.

2020 fucking sucks. Lost it when Mizkif suggested twitch should make Byron a global emote "so that he forever lives on, in the platform". Then broke out in laughter when he talked about how Reckful stole like $3000 worth of BBQ chicken and other shit cuz he kept loosing bets lol.

This has been an emotional day....

One comment I read somewhere today said that even if you dont know who Reckful was, you can look at the reactions of the people that did, to see how many lives he touched.

The Dr.K clip really got me, was not expecting to get so emotional over it. I've played wow off and on since BC (12 years) and Reckful was someone I watched a lot as I main'd rogue/paladin. I knew this would happen eventually, the guy was beyond damaged but recently I got more hopeful that he was pulling through since his "I'm happy" streams and working with Dr.K. But it seems these last 6 months were just him putting out as much positivity and gifts as possible before he finally pulled it off. I've never cared about a public figures death before, but this has got me.
