Henry Lee Lucas, an infamous serial killer who was active primarily in the 1970s and early 1980s, confessed to hundreds of murders, but the exact number of his victims remains uncertain and widely disputed. Lucas's confessions often proved unreliable, leading to controversy and skepticism among law enforcement and criminologists. Lucas was convicted of murdering 11 people, though he claimed to have killed hundreds across the United States. His first known murder was of his own mother in 1960, for which he served 15 years in prison. After his release, he drifted around the country, and his claimed murder spree began. One of his confirmed victims was 15-year-old Becky Powell, his common-law wife's niece, whom he murdered in 1982. Another was Kate Rich, an elderly woman whom Lucas and Powell had lived with. These crimes led to his final capture in 1983. Lucas's case became more complicated after his capture. He began confessing to hundreds of unsolved murders, leading some law enforcement agencies to clear their books of unsolved cases based on his word alone. However, the validity of these confessions came into question due to inconsistencies and the impossibility of Lucas being present at all the crime scenes he claimed to have been involved in. In 1985, Lucas was sentenced to death for the murder of an unidentified woman, known as "Orange Socks," but his sentence was commuted to life in prison in 1998 by then-Governor George W. You forgot the coolest bit with Lucas and Toole - Lucas said the only reason why he didn't eat the chicks with Otis was that he didn't like the sauce Otis used  And 'Portrait' rocks - my wife still has flashbacks from that movie, the only one I've ever seen to disturb her  |

IIRC.... he admitted to a bunch of murders they weren't involved in and changed his story many times. The police don't think he commited nearly as many as he confessed to and recanted. He was one that really liked to fuck with police's minds.
