Mass Shooting Inside Pulse Nightclub, Orlando Terrorist Shooting
The Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, was a horrific act of violence that occurred on June 12, 2016. It was one of the deadliest mass shootings in United States history at the time. The attack resulted in the deaths of 49 people and left 53 others wounded. The gunman, Omar Mateen, entered the Pulse nightclub, a popular LGBTQ venue, in the early hours of the morning and began shooting at patrons. He took hostages and barricaded himself inside the club, leading to a standoff with police. The siege lasted several hours until law enforcement breached the building and shot and killed Mateen. During the attack, Mateen called 911 and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), leading authorities to investigate the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism. The investigation also examined Mateen's possible motivations, including his views on the LGBTQ community and potential influence by extremist ideologies. Can't confirm but someone heard this on the police scanner : 9 dead, 24 shot, hostages still inside, bomb squad on scene. |
