Maréchal De Lattre on His Deathbed
Maréchal Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, a highly distinguished French military commander and war hero, passed away on January 11, 1952, in Paris, France. Born on February 2, 1889, in Mouilleron-en-Pareds, Vendée, he was a key figure in France during World War II and the immediate post-war period. De Lattre de Tassigny played a pivotal role in the French resistance against Nazi Germany. After the fall of France in 1940, he was imprisoned for his opposition to the Vichy regime but managed to escape and joined Charles de Gaulle's Free French Forces. He led the French First Army during the liberation of France in 1944 and was instrumental in several key battles, including the liberation of Alsace and the invasion of Germany. |

Re: Maréchal De Lattre on His Deathbed
"On his deathbed" means he is on (or in) the bed he is dying in, NOT the place they put his body once he has died.

Re: Maréchal De Lattre on His Deathbed
His only son was an officer in the French Army as well and was killed in battle in North Vietnam (then Tonkin). it is said that the Marechal died of a broken heart because of that.
