Jay Sebring, a renowned hair stylist and Hollywood figure, was one of the victims of the infamous Manson Family murders that shocked the nation in August 1969. Sebring was murdered alongside actress Sharon Tate, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, writer Wojciech Frykowski, and teenager Steven Parent at Tate's home in the Benedict Canyon area of Los Angeles.

Jay Sebring, born Thomas John Kummer, was a prominent hairstylist in the 1960s, known for styling celebrities and for his innovative approach to men's hair styling. He was also known for his romantic relationship with actress Sharon Tate before she married director Roman Polanski.

On the night of August 8, 1969, Sebring, Tate, Folger, and Frykowski were at Tate's home when members of the Charles Manson cult broke into the house and brutally murdered them. The Manson Family, as they were known, were a cult led by Charles Manson, who had instructed his followers to go to the house and "totally destroy everyone in [it], as gruesome as you can."

The murders were characterized by their extreme brutality and the lack of a clear motive, initially leaving the police baffled. The crime scene was discovered the following morning by Tate's housekeeper, and the news of the murders sent shockwaves through Hollywood and the nation.

The investigation eventually led to the arrest of Charles Manson and several of his followers.
