Malcolm X - Death Pictures
Malcolm X, a prominent figure in the American civil rights movement, was assassinated on February 21, 1965, during a public speaking engagement at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, New York City. He was 39. Authorities reported that Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little and also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was about to deliver a speech to a gathering of the Organization of Afro-American Unity when he was shot multiple times. The assailants, later identified as members of the Nation of Islam, interrupted the meeting, causing chaos among the crowd of 400 people. Witnesses described a sudden eruption of gunfire, which left Malcolm X fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. The initial investigation indicated that he sustained 21 gunshot wounds from multiple shooters. The New York City Police Department arrested three members of the Nation of Islam in connection with the assassination. Talmadge Hayer, Norman 3X Butler, and Thomas 15X Johnson were later convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  · |
