Oct 16 (Reuters) - Former One Direction singer Liam Payne died outside a hotel in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, local media reported on Wednesday, saying the 31-year-old British musician was found dead after falling from the hotel's third floor.
Citing officials, leading local newspapers La Nacion and Clarin reported that police were called to the hotel in the capital's leafy Palermo neighborhood responding to an emergency call that cited "an aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol."
Ambulance workers later confirmed the death of the singer, who was found in an interior hotel patio, according to the news reports.
Liam Payne rose to global fame as part of the since-disbanded pop band One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.
The boy band got its start after finishing third on the British version of the X Factor music competition show in 2010, but the group broke up in 2016 as its members pursued different projects including solo careers.

Legal action against Liam Payne filed just days before death at age 31
Witnesses say Payne was ‘acting erratically’ before he fell from a hotel balcony.

Witnesses say Payne was “acting erratically”, just before the incident, Sunrise reported.

The former One Direction star’s ex-fiancée Maya Henry had reportedly filed a lawsuit against him, just two days ago.

Any links between the two incidents are not yet known.

The Texan model, 23, accused Payne of repeatedly contacting her.

The singer had an off-again-on again relationship with Henry, which came to an end in 2022.

Henry also shared a scathing Tiktok last week, claiming Payne had gone to extreme lengths to contact her.

“Ever since we broke up he messages me, will blow up my phone, not only from his phone, it’s always from different phone numbers too, so I never know where it’s gonna come from,” she said.

According to La Nacion the local police station was called by the hotel manager who reported “an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol”.

The fall was reportedly 13m to 14m and Payne suffered “very serious injuries incompatible with life”.

The head of local emergency services SAME (El Sistema de Atención Médica de Emergencias, Alberto Crescent said in a televised statement in Argentina: “At 17.04, through 911, the integrated public security system, we were alerted about a person who was in an internal courtyard of the Casa Sur hotel.

“At 17.11, a SAME team arrived and confirmed the man’s death. We later learned that he was a singer in a musical group.

“Unfortunately, he had injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death. There was no possibility of resuscitation.”

Payne rose to global fame as part of the British boy band sensation One Direction, who formed on The X Factor UK in 2010 and went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.

Payne is father to a seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he shares with singer Cheryl Cole.
