Ken Rex McElroy, a notorious figure known as the "town bully" of Skidmore, Missouri, met a violent end on July 10, 1981. McElroy, a criminal and convicted attempted murderer, was shot and killed in broad daylight, an act that would later become a focal point of international attention due to its mysterious and unresolved nature.

The incident occurred in front of dozens of witnesses, yet not a single person from Skidmore called an ambulance or provided information about the shooters to the authorities. The shooting took place as McElroy sat in his truck, resulting in his immediate death from two bullet wounds. His wife, Trena, was present during the incident, screaming in the passenger seat.

The identity of McElroy's killer has remained a public secret within the Skidmore community. Despite the presence of numerous witnesses, the town collectively remained silent about the details of the incident. Four decades after the murder, no one has been charged, making it an unsolved case that continues to intrigue both the public and law enforcement.
