Re: Inside the Car from Dale Earnhardt's Crash
I was 19. The house I was at had the race on and I remember hearing sounds of pure panic coming from my friend’s parents and their friends. We went in to see what had happened and watched as they played the replay while getting him out of the wreckage. I left and was driving to Atlanta listening to updates on the radio the whole drive. When I got where I was going I heard that devastating panic again and stepped outside the hotel room to learn that he had passed. The exact words I heard were, “We’ve lost Earnhardt”. I can still hear the exact voice when I think about it. There are only a handful of events that I can remember every detail of where I was and what I was doing when they happened. This is one of them, along with 9/11 and Johnny Cash & Michael Jackson’s deaths. RIP |
