Death Pictures From The Osama bin Laden Raid
The unidentified body of a man is seen after a raid by U.S. Navy SEAL commandos on the compound where al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in Abbottabad, May 2, 2011. Osama bin Laden, the founder and leader of the Islamist terrorist group al-Qaeda, responsible for numerous terrorist attacks worldwide including the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, was killed on May 2, 2011, in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The operation, codenamed Operation Neptune Spear, was carried out by United States Navy SEALs from the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, commonly known as SEAL Team Six. The SEALs were flown into Pakistan from Afghanistan and conducted a raid on a compound where bin Laden was believed to be hiding. The raid was the culmination of years of intelligence gathering and months of surveillance on the compound. During the operation, the SEALs engaged with bin Laden and other individuals in the compound. Bin Laden was shot and killed in the raid. The operation was conducted without the knowledge or consent of the Pakistani government, leading to tensions between the United States and Pakistan. |
