Pablo Escobar, the infamous drug lord who dominated the global cocaine trade, was killed on December 2, 1993, in Medellín, Colombia. As the head of the Medellín Cartel, Escobar's criminal empire controlled a vast majority of the cocaine shipped to the United States, making him one of the richest men in the world at the time. Escobar's reign was marked by extravagant wealth and brutal violence, including bombings, assassinations, and the corruption of public officials. His cartel's activities led to widespread turmoil in Colombia, making him a top target for Colombian and U.S. law enforcement. After escaping from a luxurious prison in 1992, Escobar evaded capture for over a year. The search for Escobar was an intense and collaborative effort between the Colombian National Police and U.S. intelligence agencies. He was eventually located in Medellín, and during a subsequent operation by Colombian forces, Escobar was shot and killed on a rooftop after a brief gunfight. At the end here, you can also see video from Pablo Escobar's exhumation, notice how his brother holds his head. You can also see the remains of one of his mansions here: http://www.documentingreality.com/fo...2013-a-134942/ |
