Re: The Death of Owen Hart in the Ring at Over the Edge Event

I remember when this happened. I was just a little kid and my family and I had tickets to the RAW show in St. Louis the next day (this accident happened in Kansas City, MO).

The St. Louis show I attended became a huge Owen Hart tribute. I understand the need nowadays, but at the time little 10-year-old me was disappointed because there wasn't a lot of wrestling happening during the show. It was basically three hours of tribute videos and wrestlers coming out to pay respects to Owen Hart.

They've already gone under oath a bunch of times saying that the video does not exist. It was literally one disgruntled ex employee that said he happened to see it just laying around in some video vault. If it ever surfaces, I'm sure there'll no doubt be some pretty serious lawsuits.

How do we know an audience member didn't have a camcorder with them? Maybe that's what a previous poster meant when they said their dad got it on VHS.

It was confirmed to exist by Kevin Kelly whom was with WWF at the time of Owen's death. He has no reason to lie about it.

From what I've come to understand is WWE keeps a copy of it for legal reasons. They were sued by Owen's widow Martha and they probably keep it in case they ever need it for anything. Not to mention the police and/or FBI (not sure if the FBI was involved) would also have copies.

EDIT: Here is Kevin's exact words;

Quote:
His death occurred at an event. – Sadly, one of the reasons why Owen Hart remains so fresh in our minds is because he died at a televised event, not in a hotel room. He’s not the only wrestler who died at a show but it sticks with us when we think about that fateful night in Kansas City. I still think about the master tapes on the shelf at the WWE video library inside the walls of the TV studio. Instructions never to destroy, view or duplicate.

It was dark at the time, most lights in the house were off. Just a video playing on the jumbotrons. I really honestly believe there was a short clip from a camcorder video I saw on the net at least 7 plus years ago, but it was too dark to see anything going on by the stage and the camera wasn't fixed on the stage in the dark. There was some dust kicked up from the stage that was visible in the dim light on the stage but the rest was dark. I've tried recently to find it but couldn't anywhere. Really drive me insane to not be able to find it, possible it was a video of something else just kind of lost throughout the years.

ALSO it wasn't being aired live that minute. PPV viewers were seeing a prerecorded thing if I remember correctly. It happened before cameras cut back.

You saw something else. As previously stated, there is NO footage of the fall anywhere and never has been. He landed in the ring near the turnbuckle, not the stage.

You probably saw a video that lied about being the fall like so many have over the last 20+ years.

I'm extremely well versed on it, it's a topic I go back to from time to time since I was kid and all my neighborhood friends saw over the edge that year. I know exactly where he fell, I didn't describe the fall in the video I saw because it didn't show the fall like I said. It showed the jumbotron and a bunch of dark stuff that didn't pick up on the camcorder. Then showed the stage after the crash but through the crowd, darkness and dust you couldn't see anything. Plus the camera wasn't focused on the stage because basically nobody knew anything had really happened yet. Video was maybe 11 seconds?

I haven't seen the video in a long time now, so I can't say. But I am definitely familiar with the promo he was running before he came out, what part of the promo was playing when he fell etc. The Spanish broadcast at the time picked up the audio of him slamming into the stage. So if I heard it now I'd know immediately if it was at that moment.

Re: The Death of Owen Hart in the Ring at Over the Edge Event

From what I understand, the video DOES exist, and it is vaulted underground somewhere where they have a shitload of videos, basically everything they've ever broadcasted on a physical reel, or vhs. I forgot what the place is called, but it literally looks like an underground cave, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, with lots of security.

I am a long time wrestling fan, and I have searched for this video for decades.. you won't find it. Anybody who says they've seen it, is lying, or they don't know what they're talking about. People tend to show the infamous New Jack bump he took off the scaffold, which was scripted. There are some blurry images of what people suspect was Owen falling, but it's hard to determine. There are definitely images of Owen already down and unconscious in the ring, but even those have been increasingly harder and harder to find as the years go on. There is no blood in the images, except maybe a little on his arm, and a spot in the ring, that they tried to clean, but you can see it throughout the rest of Over the Edge ppv, if you look. If you ever went to a WWE/WWF show back in the day, when there wasn't camera phones, if you tried to bring in your own camera, they would confiscate it, and you could get it back after the event. It was virtually impossible to record something like that. They were very strict, I even remember going to an event with my dad and brother, where they took my soda, because it was considered a concession, and I had to buy one from them, even though my dad told them I have hypoglycemia and needed it. It was either that, or you don't see the show. Things are different now, different world.

Until you described it, I assumed it was just some Mandela effect BS... But I think I saw the same footage... literally 15-ish years ago. I was a teenager at the time, so more like 17, 18 minimum.

Shaky, dark footage. From fairly high up in the crowd. If I remember right.... their perspective would've been such that the jumbotron would've been in front and to the left of them? If you were to imagine the ring like a compass, with the jumbotron being North, the perspective would've been... SWW?

Anyway, yeah, it didn't show the fall/impact, not even a decent picture of the aftermath. Mainly just a bit of confusion as people were wondering WTF just happened.
