This happened at my high school. I was in kindergarten when the shooting happened. The elementary school is directly across the street from the high school and I was on the bus heading to school when it all went down. All the kindergarten kids had to sit at the front of the bus and I remember hearing another bus driver coming through the radio screaming and crying saying her daughter was in the prayer circle. When the bus pulled up at the school I saw victims getting rolled into the back of ambulances. Later on when I was in high school at Heath, every year on December 1st teachers who were there when it happened would tell stories. I had a biology teacher tell me she was one of the first to triage victims and held one of the girl's skull together. Because we had a shooting, I think it was my junior year, we had Rachel Scott's father and brother come and speak at an assembly about bullying and surviving a school shooting. I worked the lighting for Craig Scott's part of the presentation of the assembly and got to talk to him behind the stage. I remember feeling sorry for him because he seemed like he was out of his mind. There was a prop rocket ship from the school choir's variety show behind the stage and in between video montages that would play, he would go back behind the stage and get in the rocket and quote lines from a Brian Regan standup set. I was the last graduating class of Heath High School (2010) who were in school when the shooting occurred. Heath High doesn't exist anymore. The building is now Heath Middle. They consolidated all the schools in my county to make a new high school. But yeah, it was an interesting high school experience to say the least. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold mentioned my high school in one of their basement tapes, talking about how they would outdo the Heath shooting.
What I was told while attending Heath was that there was a gossip column in the school paper at the time where they would actually post student rumors and someone wrote an article about how he was gay. I don't know if that was ever solidified as true though.
I graduated from Heath in '07. Curious as to who you are.
