Crime Scene Pictures From The Heath High School Shooting
On December 1, 1997, a school shooting occurred at Heath High School in West Paducah, Kentucky. The perpetrator, 14-year-old Michael Carneal, opened fire on a group of students, resulting in three deaths and five injuries. This incident is one of several school shootings that have shaped national discussions on gun control and school safety in the United States. Carneal, a freshman at Heath High School, began shooting as students gathered in a prayer circle before classes started. The victims who lost their lives were Nicole Hadley, Jessica James, and Kayce Steger, all students at Heath High School. The incident ended when Carneal dropped his gun and surrendered to the school's principal. The investigation into the shooting focused on Carneal's motives and mental health. It was revealed that he had a history of psychiatric issues and had been undergoing treatment. Carneal reportedly told psychologists that he felt bullied and isolated, which might have contributed to his actions. In October 1998, Carneal pleaded guilty but mentally ill to three counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years. |

Here's pics of one of the surviving victims Missy Jenkins, who was paralysed. She's a Mom and Wife now, and does speaking engagements. She also spoke to Carneal at his trial. And here's Carneal today, still at La Grange, and eligible for parole in 2023. http://kool.corrections.ky.gov/KOOL/Details/246005 |

Killed three, but serving only one life sentence? Does KY Law limit sentencing and/or incarceration? How unfortunate for the victims. There is an interview with this kid on youtube. I didn't watch it (yet), so I won't link it. But it's there if anyone's interested. |

Re: Crime Scene Pictures From The Heath High School Shooting
Any school shooting pre-Columbine is sadly under documented. Sometimes it's weird to hear about school shootings that predate Columbine because of Columbine being treated like the first school shooting.
