This was a relatively large case when it happened in 1993 in Nebraska, it mainly grabbed attention from people and the media due to one of the victims being a woman identifying as a man (FTM transgender). It also became the subject of the movie 'Boys Don't Cry' starring Hilary Swank - who went on to win an Oscar for her role as Brandon Teena.

The homicide of Brandon Teena, a young transgender man, in 1993 in Humboldt, Nebraska, is a case that brought significant attention to issues of gender identity and violence against transgender individuals.

On December 31, 1993, Brandon Teena was murdered along with two others, Lisa Lambert and Phillip DeVine, in a farmhouse near Humboldt. The crime was perpetrated by John Lotter and Marvin Nissen, acquaintances of Teena. The events leading to Teena's murder began earlier in December, when it was discovered that Teena, who was living and identifying as a man, was assigned female at birth. Following this revelation, Teena was assaulted by Lotter and Nissen. Despite reporting the assault to the police, Teena received little support or protection, and the lack of adequate response by law enforcement is a critical aspect of the case's subsequent scrutiny.

In the aftermath of the murders, Lotter and Nissen were arrested and charged. Nissen later testified against Lotter in exchange for a reduced sentence and admitted to his involvement in the rape and murder. Lotter was sentenced to death, while Nissen received life in prison.

The story of Brandon Teena gained wider attention through the 1999 film "Boys Don't Cry," starring Hilary Swank, who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Teena. The film played a significant role in bringing the issues of transgender rights and hate crimes to a broader audience.

Also on Christmas Eve, John Lotter and Tom Nissen had raped and beaten Brandon.

I have also included images of John Lotter and Tom Nissen, the murderers (Lotter is on the left, Nissen on the right).

Oh and hi, I'm new to this site! I found these pictures over a year ago in a 20/20 documentary about the case which is now on Youtube. There is also an autopsy picture of Brandon Teena in another documentary about the case, but I didn't think to include it as it's not of a very good quality. If anyone has any photos/info to add, please do! I have been reading about this case for a few years now.
