Christina Grimmie Shooting Crime Scene Photos + Autopsy Reports
Singer Christina Grimmie, 22, was fatally shot by Kevin James Loibl during a meet-and-greet at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Florida, on June 10, 2016. Loibl, 27, killed himself at the scene after her brother tackled him. Christina Grimmie Grimmie was from Marlton, New Jersey. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, she attended Marlton Middle School and Cherokee High School before switching to homeschooling after her sophomore year. She began posting on YouTube in August 2009 with a cover of Miley Cyrus's "Party in the U.S.A." recorded in her bedroom. Her username, "zeldaxlove64", reflected her interest in The Legend of Zelda and Nintendo 64. According to Billboard, her independently released "Find Me" EP debuted at No. 35 on the Billboard 200 in June 2011, when she was 17. That year she toured with Selena Gomez & the Scene. In 2014, Grimmie finished third on season 6 of NBC's "The Voice", coached by Adam Levine. At her death, Orlando police recorded 3.5 million YouTube subscribers and 947,000 Twitter followers. Her brother Marcus Grimmie was her road manager and touring guitarist. Kevin Loibl Loibl lived with family in St. Petersburg, Florida. According to Orlando police, he had worked part-time at Best Buy for more than eight years, repairing computers on the Geek Squad team away from customers. He had no criminal history or recorded involuntary mental health evaluation; his father said he had never been diagnosed with a mental illness. Co-worker Cory Dennington told investigators that Loibl spent most of his waking hours watching Grimmie's videos and following her social media. Dennington said Loibl called her his "soul mate" and became defensive when challenged about his hopes. Dennington raised his concern with supervisor Luke Dahl. Police documented legal purchases of a Glock 26 9mm on May 25, 2016, collected May 31, and a Glock 19 9mm on June 1, 2016, collected June 7. According to police, Loibl arrived by cab at the Courtyard by Marriott in Orlando around 1:30 p.m. on June 9, 2016. He paid the driver $200 for a round trip from St. Petersburg. His family did not know about the guns or his fixation on Grimmie. June 10, 2016 Police obtained Old Navy video showing Loibl buying a black baseball cap and water at 6:54 p.m. in the same shopping center as the theater. Grimmie was performing with Before You Exit. According to police, the concert began at 7:30 p.m. The venue had unarmed security and entrance bag checks, but no metal detectors. Concert footage showed Loibl standing alone against the back wall. Afterward, Grimmie met fans at the back of the theater. Police said more than 100 people remained inside. According to accounts reported by the Orlando Sentinel and Inside Edition, she opened her arms to hug Loibl when he reached her, and he shot her. No witness heard him speak before or after the shooting. Marcus, nearby at the merchandise table, heard shots, saw his sister fall and tackled Loibl. According to police, Loibl broke free, backed against a wall and shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police recorded multiple 911 calls at 10:24 p.m. Chief John Mina separately placed the shooting at about 10:30 p.m. and said officers arrived within two minutes of the first call. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Dr. Mark McDonough, father of the Before You Exit members, began CPR. Orlando Fire Department Rescue 6 treated Grimmie and transported her to Orlando Regional Medical Center. The police report records her death at 10:59 p.m. that Friday, rather than "early Saturday" as initially reported by the Orlando Sentinel and NBC News following her publicist's confirmation. The Investigation Police found six 9mm shell casings, five near the merchandise table and one near Loibl. They recovered both handguns. Loibl also carried two full magazines and a knife strapped to his ankle. Police documented two concealed nylon holsters inside the back of his pants. Investigators could not extract data from Loibl's encrypted phone. Accounts of his computer's hard drive differed: police said it appeared intentionally destroyed, while the Orlando Sentinel and Inside Edition later reported that he had removed and hidden it and that it remained missing. Grimmie's phone contained no threatening messages, no sign of Loibl's number and no evidence of contact between them. Police did not establish a motive, describing an "unhealthy" and "unrealistic" infatuation. Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Joshua D. Stephany performed both autopsies on June 11, 2016. Grimmie's report documented three penetrating gunshot wounds, entering the right temple, right chest and top of the left shoulder. There were no exit wounds; all three bullets were recovered. The head wound was close range, with stippling but no soot or muzzle imprint. The chest bullet passed through the right lung and right atrium of the heart. The shoulder bullet traveled downward into the left lower lung. Her cause of death was gunshot wounds of the head and chest; the manner was homicide. Loibl's report documented a contact gunshot wound to the left temple, with soot and a muzzle imprint, exiting the back right of the scalp. His cause of death was a gunshot wound of the head; the manner was suicide. Both toxicology examinations were negative except for caffeine. Police closed the case on June 22, 2016, as "death of offender", concluding that probable cause supported first-degree murder had Loibl survived. The autopsy reports were released July 22, 2016. Aftermath Grimmie was buried privately in South Jersey on June 16, 2016. Levine paid for her funeral. On December 20, 2016, Albert, Tina and Marcus Grimmie sued AEG Live and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Plaza Foundation, alleging wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress. The lawsuit challenged security screening. The family voluntarily dismissed it on December 3, 2019. Court documents gave no reason, and no settlement was reported. The posthumous single "Invisible" arrived in February 2017, with proceeds supporting a memorial fund that helped launch the Christina Grimmie Foundation. The foundation supports families affected by gun violence and people with breast cancer. Her posthumous album "All Is Vanity" was released June 9, 2017. The police evidence photos are below, and the autopsy reports are attached at the bottom of the post. |

Great post. What an interesting read, though a tragic end for this sweet girl. I just hope that fucking loser has a special place in hell, where his life is long, but with every minute in pain. |

Definitely, it's what I carry in my pistol. Part of the reason I mentioned the type/name of the ammo in the writeup is because it's so well known (at least in the firearms community) as a excellent self-defense round.

Nice. What caliber you carry just wonderin. I normally carry .40 (since I only have one pistol, a S&W 4013TSW, atm) but am looking to switch to 9mm (probably a Glock or a M&P Shield when in the next few months when I get some more $$.

Re: Christina Grimmie Shooting Crime Scene Photos + Autopsy Reports
Such a shame to lose a beautiful, talented young lady so soon. I am reminded of the Rebecca Schaeffer case. She was a young actress who was shot by a weirdo named David Barto. To hear him describe how she died is horrifying. You can tell by the shape of his head, he had some brain damage going on. |
