Re: Budd Dwyer: Full Video and Story
I noticed that, too. More like, "Holy shit, they allow you to smoke inside anywhere in 1987?" 'Twas a different time, Tiff, when men were allowed to be men and women knew better than to venture out of the kitchen. |

Sometimes it takes a monumentous act to show you are innocent, and I believe this man was innocent.

Re: Budd Dwyer: Full Video and Story
Part of why I wanted to post my cut edition of the video with background. I think that the 10 seconds of him shooting himself alone deprives it of any meaning beyond 'oh look blood everywhere'. Might be just me though. |

Re: Budd Dwyer: Full Video and Story
No, you've got a good point. Seeing him alive puts it very much into context, and it also makes one appreciate the sudden finality of the act of suicide by firearm. One second the person is there speaking, animated, and full of life; and the next second, it's much different from that. Plus the longer you watch him speak (and sweat), the more he's humanized. You can see his expressions and his mannerisms, and become familiar with his voice. And the context of knowing what's on his mind the entire time lends a certain perspective to the moments leading up to the incident itself. Many years separated my first viewing of Dwyer's suicide (starting at the point where he pulls out the .357) and my viewing of "Honest Man." At the end of "Honest Man," they show a speech he gave during his electoral victory celebration in which he recites "A Prayer For Those In Office" (or something to that effect). It made me appreciate his humanity and lent additional weight to his death, deepening the overall experience of seeing another person's self-inflicted demise. |

Re: Budd Dwyer: Full Video and Story
A peculiar aspect to that video was that in every copy and edit I've seen, the video quality goes to crap just as he grabs the gun. The whole of the speech is crystal clear video... But at the instant he grabs the gun, it goes fuzzy. |
