Serial Killer Bella Gunness Crime Scene Photos
Belle Gunness, one of America's most notorious female serial killers, left a trail of mysteries and deaths in the early 20th century. Operating in La Porte, Indiana, Gunness' crimes were uncovered following a fire at her property in 1908, revealing a gruesome series of events that shocked the nation. Born in Norway in 1859 as Brynhild Paulsdatter Størseth, Belle Gunness immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. She eventually settled in Indiana, where she married and began a series of events that would lead to her infamy. Gunness was implicated in the deaths of several husbands and suitors, as well as her own children, over a period of years. The motives for these killings were largely financial, with Gunness benefiting from insurance payouts and the assets of her victims. The full extent of her crimes began to unfold after a fire destroyed her farmhouse in April 1908. Investigators discovered the bodies of numerous victims buried on her property. The remains suggested that many of her suitors, lured by matrimonial advertisements, met their demise at her hands. Reports indicate that as many as 40 individuals may have been killed by Gunness, although the exact number remains uncertain. In a bizarre twist, the headless body of a woman, believed to be Gunness, was found in the ruins of her home. However, doubts about the identity of this body arose due to discrepancies in size and other physical characteristics. This led to speculation that Belle Gunness may have faked her own death to escape justice.
