Mat Olson, a 25-year-old BMX stunt rider surprised passers-by when he chose to take the cycle lane to new heights, using the 24-foot arches as his track.
The thrill-seeker, who is hoping for a chance to compete in the X Games sports event, was seen riding along the top of the undulating bridge Seventh Street Bridge arches as traffic passed by below.
Police condemned Mr Olson's illegal stunt, and gave him a warning, saying '‘to be honest, we’re glad you’re alive. We don’t want to see that on our watch. Tell your friends we’ll be watching out for this and we won’t be lenient the next time.''
Mr Olsen did not appear fazed by the danger of his ride on the newly-completed bridge, saying: "It was pretty exhilarating, that’s for sure."
