Los Alamos Green Fireballs Conference, 1949
This PDF is a transcript of a conference held on March 22, 1949, at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The attendees included scientists and physicists, many of whom had worked on the first nuclear weapons during the Manhattan Project. The meeting was held to discuss hypotheses about "green fireballs" reported for several months near the laboratory. The group did not reach a consensus, though one leading idea was that the sightings may have been meteors entering the atmosphere at a shallow angle and high altitude. Dr. Edward Teller suggested that, if not a "material body," an "electron phenomenon" might be the cause, while meteorics expert Dr. Lincoln LaPaz said "nothing like this, to [his] knowledge, has ever been observed in the case of meteorite drops." Declassified by the Department of War under the PURSUE UAP records release (tranche of 7/10/26). Agency: Department of Energy Incident: 3/22/49, New Mexico Document ID: DOE-UAP-D004
