They also cover his 1987-1989 position leading the Ba'ath Party's Northern Bureau, village "collectivization" and destruction in Kurdish areas, and his responses to an audio recording discussed in a Human Rights Watch report on the Anfal campaign. Al-Majid denied responsibility or personal knowledge of chemical-weapons use, Kurdish persecution, and executions, while acknowledging authority connected to relocating villagers and ordering houses destroyed in prohibited zones.
