FBI File on Vito Giacalone and Detroit Organized Crime
This FBI file concerns Vito Giacalone, also identified as William Giacalone, a Detroit-area organized-crime figure investigated under the Bureau's anti-racketeering and hoodlum programs. A February 1961 Detroit report compiles biographical information, police and court records, associates, suspected gambling and loan-sharking activity, possible interests in the Home Juice Company, and planned review of tax, bank, telephone, and business records. The records identify his wife Rose Stellino Giacalone and discuss his association with Anthony Giacalone, Paul Vitale, Frank Salvatore Buffa, John Serra, and Dominic 'Sparky' Corrado. Later records from November 1974 concern an extortionate-credit investigation involving a reported collector of shylock loans for the Detroit La Cosa Nostra and FBI authorization for a cooperating victim to wear a body recorder. Many pages and source identities were withheld under FOIA exemptions.
