FBI File on Vincent Foster's Death Investigation
This file concerns the 1993 death of Vincent W. Foster Jr., the Deputy White House Counsel to President Bill Clinton, whose body was found at Fort Marcy Park in Virginia. The FBI assisted the U.S. Park Police investigation with laboratory and firearms-related evidence review and conducted a Justice Department-requested preliminary inquiry into the delayed turnover of Foster's torn handwritten note from his White House office. Released records include a 1993 FBI memorandum describing interviews and the inquiry into possible obstruction of justice, a 1994 evidence-submission inventory listing Foster's clothing, personal effects, revolver, photographs, autopsy material, and laboratory reports, and material addressing questions raised about the death scene. The records state that the Park Police investigation indicated suicide and that the FBI inquiry found no evidence that officials intended to withhold the note from law enforcement.
