FBI File on Theodore Hall

This FBI file concerns Theodore Alvin Hall, the Harvard-trained physicist who worked on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos and was later identified as a Soviet atomic spy. The Bureau compiled a character and background investigation that drew on Harvard College registrar and alumni records, scholarship materials, confidential-informant reports, and address information. The records document Hall's Harvard education, his 1944 leave for secret wartime physics work under Project Y, his Army assignment to the Manhattan Project, and reported associations involving Communist-linked groups. The file also includes an extensive background inquiry on Hall's Harvard acquaintance Saville Sax, including his academic record, suspensions, employment, and reported youth-organization activity.
