FBI File on the Robert F. Kennedy Assassination
This FBI KENSALT file concerns the June 1968 assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles and the investigation and prosecution of Sirhan Sirhan. The OCR shows a May 4, 1977 Los Angeles FBI memorandum forwarding Thomas F. Kranz's special counsel report, which the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors had commissioned in 1975 to review the case independently. The report material includes a foreword, a chronology of the shooting, witness and police accounts, Sirhan's arrest, the trial evidence, appellate history, and public controversy over whether the case should be reopened. The released pages focus heavily on ballistics issues, including Dewayne Wolfer's testimony, test-fired bullets, serial number and custody questions, later expert examinations, and an Associated Press photograph captioned as showing a bullet in wood.
