FBI File on Paul John Knowles Inquiry

This file documents a 2003 New York State Police request for FBI information on Paul John Knowles in connection with the unsolved 1974 murder of SUNY Cobleskill student Katherine Kolodziej. Investigators considered whether Knowles, a serial murderer who died in 1974, could be ruled in or out after reports placed him traveling north from Connecticut during the relevant period. FBI Albany sent leads to the Behavioral Science Unit, Records Management, and the Salt Lake City office, while identifying several older FBI files associated with Knowles. The released material includes an FBI reply stating that the Behavioral Science Unit and Salt Lake City found no information on Knowles, with an Identification Division request still pending, as well as 1974 laboratory records from the Emmitt and Lois Johnson homicide concerning firearms, blood, and shoe-print examinations.
