Nicholas Berg was an American civilian kidnapped and murdered in Iraq in 2004. The FBI treated the matter as a counterterrorism and victim-deceased investigation, with work involving the Washington Field Office, San Francisco, Baghdad, the Counterterrorism Division, and the FBI Laboratory. The released records include a November 2004 communication forwarding a videotaped September 17, 2004 interview for possible prosecution of people involved in Berg's kidnapping, as well as laboratory trace evidence reports on hair, clothing, and debris recovered from the victim. The file also contains evidence submission forms, requests for comparison examinations, and many pages withheld as referrals, duplicates, exemptions, or sealed court-ordered material.
