FBI File on John Edward Mack
This FBI file concerns Dr. John Edward Mack, later a Harvard Medical School professor, after information suggested that a Harvard-affiliated student might join a 1954 summer trip to the Soviet Union. Boston and Washington Field Office records document checks of Harvard, passport records, local indices, and background information; the State Department reported that Mack's passport was issued for pleasure travel to France, England, and Italy and was not valid for Soviet travel. The Bureau concluded in late 1954 that no further investigation was warranted. Later administrative material identifies Mack in references to 1960s anti-war and civil-rights-related mailing lists and includes 1986 records-search paperwork. Documents span: 1954-1986 | Released in 1 part Names in this file: John Edward Mack Subjects: FBI surveillance, passport records, Soviet Union travel, Harvard Medical School, anti-war movement, civil rights movement
