FBI File on the FedEx Flight 705 Assault
This file concerns the April 7, 1994 assault aboard FedEx Flight 705, a DC-10 cargo flight that departed Memphis for San Jose and returned after an off-duty FedEx pilot riding in the jump seat attacked the three-person crew. The FBI's Memphis office investigated the crime aboard an aircraft with Memphis police, examined the aircraft, gathered evidence, coordinated leads, and supported the federal prosecution for attempted air piracy. Released records include the initial FBI teletype and press release, investigative communications, evidence inventories, press clippings, and material concerning searches, suppression litigation, and the defendant's mental-health-related records. A January 1995 request asks the FBI laboratory to enhance cockpit voice recorder tapes for the trial scheduled the following month.
