FBI File on Bigfoot Hair Examination Requests

This file concerns requests by Peter C. Byrne of the Bigfoot Information Center and Exhibition in The Dalles, Oregon, for FBI laboratory help with alleged Bigfoot evidence. In 1976, Byrne asked whether the FBI had previously examined purported Bigfoot hair, a claim attributed to the Army Corps of Engineers' 1975 Washington Environmental Atlas. The FBI replied that it could find no records of such an examination, and an internal memorandum says the Atlas editor, Dr. Steve Rice, could not locate the source for the claim. Later records include Byrne's request for analysis of 15 unidentified hairs attached to a small piece of skin, an internal recommendation to grant the request, and a letter stating that the Laboratory would examine the material as an exception for research and scientific inquiry.
