Craig Hohenwald Kanabec County Double Murder
murder that just happened on sun. nite, the girl(linda)lived on the street right behind me. from the kanabec county times A husband and wife were killed inside their rural Kanabec County home Sunday night during what authorities are calling a home invasion. Charges against two suspects were filed Tuesday for their alleged roles in the murders. Emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls from the Knife Lake Township residence of Larry and Lois Steenerson just after 10 p.m. Sunday night. Authorities say the calls were placed by both victims and reported occupants of the home were being stabbed and robbed. They are also said to have reported gunfire and identified their attacker. A Mora police officer was the first to arrive at the Steenerson home, reaching the residence within minutes of the first call being placed. The officer, according to court documents, saw a male party later identified as 27-year-old Brook Park resident Craig Hohenwald exit the Steenerson home and enter through the passenger door a car in the driveway. The car attempted to leave the driveway but came to a stop upon reaching the officer’s squad car. Hohenwald, who was allegedly covered in blood, attempted to exit the vehicle. The police officer drew his weapon and ordered Hohenwald to the ground. He then ordered the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 28-year-old Mora resident Jennifer Seiberlich, out of the car. Backup soon arrived, and both suspects were secured. A subsequent search of the Steenerson home found Lois Steenerson in the upper level of the residence. Though still breathing and talking, she had been stabbed multiple times and died a short time later at Kanabec Hospital as a result of the wounds. Larry Steenerson was found in the lower level of the Knife Lake Township home. He had been stabbed between 30 and 40 times, according to court documents, and was pronounced dead by paramedics at approximately 11 p.m. Though prosecutors have yet to identify it as a murder weapon, authorities found a knife behind the car Hohenwald and Seiberlich were found in. A bloody gun is also alleged to have been found under the seat which Hohenwald had been sitting in. Authorities have yet to confirm or deny whether the gun had been fired or what role it played, if any, in the alleged crimes. |
