Brazil Cables and NASC Notes on 1963 Bahia Report
This PDF gathers three related records on a reported crash in Conde, Bahia, Brazil, in November 1963. A CIA Foreign Broadcast Information Service wire report tracked a Rio de Janeiro radio broadcast about a "large metal sphere" said to contain a deceased occupant, and handwritten NASC notes dated November 13 record a request for the State Department to ask the U.S. Embassy in Rio de Janeiro to check the report. The Embassy's November 14 cable sought to confirm that the Department viewed local newspaper claims as inauthentic, including reports of a "large metal manned balloon" and a "dead crewman aboard wearing [a] uniform or spacesuit with strange markings." A November 20 cable relayed the scientific attaché's finding from Salvador, Bahia, that the incident was unsubstantiated and a fabrication originating in Rio de Janeiro. The Consulate cited the lack of contemporary local reporting, contradictory later newspaper accounts, and a Brazilian Ministry of Aeronautics denial of any strange object in Conde. Declassified by the Department of War under the PURSUE UAP records release (tranche of 8/7/26). Incident: Bahia, Brazil Document ID: DOS-UAP-D001-set
