Australia is the 'dumbest Continent' According to Indian Call Centres
According to the centres, Australians "drink constantly" and are "quite racist". Staff are also taught to "speak slowly" to prospective Australian customers who are technologically "backward", "touchy" when talking about their pets, and more likely to refer to an Indian person as a "brown bastard". The instructions come straight from the classroom curriculum for trainee employees at India-based call centre giant, Delhi Call Centre. The sweeping stereotypes are part of the company's "cultural training" program which claims to teach new employees "communication skills" to help them connect with and better understand the social nuances of its prospective Australian customers. DCC pays its employees about "two dollars an hour" to interrupt Australians with phone calls at dinner time with attempts to sell products or convince them to switch to a rival phone provider. The revelations were made by American freelance journalist Andrew Marantz, who travelled to India and worked as a DCC salesperson in June. Marantz, spent three weeks in "call centre training" and published an article on his experiences in this month's edition of US news magazine Mother Jones. According to Marantz, successful job applicants were taken to a classroom at one of DCC's offices located inside a muddy industrial zone in the Indian city of Okhla. There they were introduced to an Indian "culture trainer" known as "Lekha" who taught the class how to "act Australian" as part of a training program completed by all employees before they were allowed to "graduate to the calling floor". The training program taught employees about conversational skills and Australian pop culture in the hope that they would build a rapport with customers, Marantz said. The second "culture training" session included a 20-minute section about the Australian psyche. The teacher told the class: "Australia is known as the dumbest continent. Literally, college was unknown there until recently, so speak slowly. "Technologically speaking, they're somewhat backward, as well. The average person's mobile would be no better than, say, a Nokia 3110 classic." The class was then told "Australians drink constantly". "If you call on a Friday night, they'll be smashed," the teacher continued. When a student asked what kind of people lived in Australia, the teacher replied: "Let's admit: they are quite racist." She continued: "Their preferred term for us is ... `brown bastards'." Marantz said trainees speaking in their native language at work was a sackable offence as the company wanted to "neuturalise" its employees' Indian accents. · |

Re: Australia is the 'dumbest Continent' According to Indian Call Centres
I want to clear this up. Yes, we are known to be racist over here. No, we do not and would never referr to our indian cousins as "brown bastards", they're most commonly known as curry munchers, curries, or curry eating fuckwits. |

Re: Australia is the 'dumbest Continent' According to Indian Call Centres
And the Indians are the most annoying call centre staff, according to just about everybody in Britain. Damn, their calls are irritating. It's pissing me off just thinking about it.
