This PDF is an excerpt from the Apollo 17 Technical Air-to-Ground Voice Transcription from December 1972, covering three periods when the crew reported unidentified phenomena during the ninth crewed U.S. mission to the Moon and the sixth to land astronauts on the lunar surface. On day 00, Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans saw "very bright particles or fragments" drifting and "tumbling" near the spacecraft, and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison "Jack" Schmitt said it looked "like the Fourth of July." The crew suggested ice or paint fragments from the separated S-IVB stage, but called that a "wild guess."

On day 02, Commander Eugene A. Cernan reported trouble sleeping, "some sets of the streaks," and an intense flash between his eyes that he compared to a train headlight and called "imposing." Over about three hours, Cernan described flashing, rotating objects he thought were physical objects in space, while Schmitt reported similar sightings and again linked them to the S-IVB, and Cernan later assessed two distant flashing objects as SLA panels. On day 03, Schmitt reported a flash on the lunar surface north of Grimaldi crater.
