Air Force Study on Flying Object Incidents, 1948

This PDF is a U.S. Air Force Air Intelligence Division study, "Analysis of Flying Object Incidents in the United States," Study No. 203, dated December 10, 1948. The Department of War file is listed with an incident location of Virginia.

The study reviews reported UFO incidents and theories about their nature and origin, concluding that "it appears that some object has been seen; however, the identification of that object cannot be readily accomplished." It says two "reasonable" origins could account for the reports, domestic or foreign technology, and advises that if foreign, the United States should assume Soviet scientific, military, or intelligence activity and take the possible threat seriously. The file also includes contemporary UFO reports and examples of experimental flying wing aircraft planforms that might explain some commonly reported UFO characteristics.

Declassified by the Department of War under the PURSUE UAP records release (tranche of 7/10/26).
